Thought I'd just upload some pics of the dudes I worked with at my old place. Erm, yeah I'm switching to another men's magazine soon.
I'll miss these sons of bitches. Will try to put up more pics if I have them.
(L to R): Me (the Kolorproofz), Gene (everybody's bitch) and Shahril (guitar hero from one of Singapore's veteran metal band, Ossuary)
Me and Gene are writers while Shahril is our designer. Not everyone was around that day so we were the only dudes from the team around.
Marlone aka Pinoy Playa.
Don't be fooled by his erm, odd choices in headgear. He's a babe magnet. It's either the giggle or the accent.
(L to R): Shahril, Marlone, Pete and Raymond the photographer
Finally a shot of us sort of at work. Pete's our ex-editor. Raymond's a photographer we used for shoots now and then.
This was taken at the lovely Hotel Naumi, a gorgeous boutique hotel smack in the heart of town. Great view of the city too.
Erm, I was just chilling on the sofa, trying to watch the soccer game that was on. Moments after this shot, I tried the bed.
So comfortable I tell you.
I wanted to post about Deathcab's coming concert in Singapore on August 12 which me and my friends had been looking forward to since we got wind of the rumour in early June.
Then today I found out the tickets are sold out. And they were on sale only last Friday. I guess the Esplanade is too small for just one night. Wonder if there's any chance of a second night. Anyway, the point of this post is...
Nabei cheebye.
I hope I get to interview them at least. sigh.
Saw the music video one night and fell in love with the track. Been looking for this for a while without much luck though. Darn. It's the debut single by Ladyhawke called 'Paris is Burning'. I think it's worth squeezing in any decent dance mix for the next 3months at least.
Find out more about New Zealand disko dame Ladyhawke at her official site or Myspace.
"I'm from New Zealand.
I've been playing music in one form or another since I was 11.
Why 11 you ask?
My stepfather is a jazz drummer and my mum a singer so I was introduced to music very young.
11 though, was the age when I first saw my step-dad play the drums. He gave a demonstration to my class. The kids were in awe.
From that moment on my whiney voice was in mums ear 24/7 BEGGING her to let me play.
She caved. Drums it was."

I like origami. it's quite a cool skill to have, especially when you're bored and have lotsa time and paper on your hands. Sort of like during exams when you can only answer 5 out of the 50 questions you need to and you're left with another 1hr 45mins left to play with.
Unfortunately, I'm retarded with instructions and sometimes can't quite figure out complicated steps. So this website is rather useful. Origami in a flash. All you need are your hands, speed and an active imagination. A very active imagination.
Check out the demo below. Everyone can practise origami now.

This is such a cool cover of Hot Chip's 'Ready for the Floor'! The gadgets a tenori-on. I gotta get me one of those!
Here's more on what this little sucka can do.
Managed to catch 3 shows last week which is quite a record for me - You Don't Mess with the Zohan, 21 and Kungfu Panda. The 2 comedies were a hit but 21 was quite a letdown.
YOU DON'T MESS WITH THE ZOHAN
YDMWTZ stars Adam Sandler. I like him. He's funny. I've always enjoyed his shows, mostly...except maybe Little Nicky.Still I like Adam Sandler. Here he stars as an Israeli super agent who escapes from the service to start life anew in the US as a hairdresser (go figure). Unfortunately he still can't run away from his identity there.
The trailers were hilarious and expectations were high of course. Surprisingly, I felt YDMWTZ surpassed expectations. It's obvious that I'm biased but seriously, this was one of his better works - except for some rather gross scenes which mainly involved the ass or old women or both.
Caught it with Alex and Robin courtesy of Disney and Alex made us wear matching Mariah Carey tshirts. We couldn't say no cos you don't mess with the Alex!
Fortunately we only have evidence of her wearing it. I admit it was rather comfortable though.
21
Went again with Alex to catch 21 which is about a bunch of smart MIT students, led by their professor Kevin Spacey, who go to Vegas to clean out the casinos. The twist was rather predictable and we felt the overall dialogue was a bit stilted, poor intro and the acting just wasn't very engaging. Plus, we didn't understand why the dude didn't just keep his money in the frikking bank instead of his hostel and it was full of cliches and stereotypes. Kevin Spacey didn't get much chance to shine but was still da man. The chick was hot. Um yeah, watch if you are doing so free of charge or bored. Luckily we had nutella crepe from Saybon which was like srsly damn nice.
KUNGFU PANDA
I worship Jack Black. He, regardless who says otherwise, is like the most entertaining, erm, entertainer there is right now. The dude sings, plays music, acts and is damn funny. He is awesome. AND THERE IS NO CHARGE FOR AWESOMENESS!!
Anyway me Alex and Robz ganged up again to catch Kungfu Panda. This Dreamworks animation, centres around a panda named Po who aspires to become like his kungfu heroes. His father, a crane (yea that totally wtf-ed us too), however wants him to take over the noodle business. One day the local kungfu school hold a test to choose the Dragon Warrior, even as the baddest ass the town has known is escaping from prison and you can probably guess what happened. It is so damn good.
Dustin Hoffman, Lucy Liu, Angelina Jolie also lend their voices but it's like, you can so totally see Jack Black as the panda la. It sort of reminded me of Samurai Jack in a way. We loved it. The kids in the audience loved it. If you don't like it, I thing you are missing a funny bone. Or it could be up your ass.
Next up, to catch Get Smart and The Incredible Hulk.
It's been about 2 weeks since my quick jaunt to Bali. I really do mean quick, only 3D 2N and our itinerary meant I wasn't really able to spend much time at the main beaches. In fact all I got for myself was a really nice massage, ciggies and loads of DVDs. like A LOT.which I still haven't unwrapped. I am so bad at DVDs cos I have a short attention span yet I still get them.
Anyway yes I know. Damn loser can. Go Bali never go beach sigh. But well since this was meant for work, I wanted to see other aspects of Bali besides the oft-documented sand and surf anyway. I never realised it took a while to travel from one part to another though.
This also means i've got an excuse to go back. Especially now that Lion Air's also flying direct from SG to Bali.Prices start from $9. For real.
I think maybe I shall save the travel account for another time, as so much has happened at work in the past coupla days holy shit I'm not kidding but in the meantime, you can check out the pictures on my Facebook album -

i've only slept 3 1/2 hrs last night and in 4hrs time I have to be at the airport to head to Bali. I'm feeling the strain but i'm valiantly fighting the z-monster in case i miss my flight later. i'd go down early to eat some Popeye's but I have no clue who the other journos are and well it's quite an unearthly hour too.
must.stay.awake.
i'm looking forward to the trip. it's a work thing really, hosted by Lion Air so it's all good. It'll be my first time on Lion Air and to Bali. Have heard lotsa good things so I think it'll be worth the wait.Haven't figured out what exactly I'll be up to there though we have an itinerary lined up for us. Lotsa free n easy basically. I look forward to taking lotsa pictures, speaking of which I am looking for a camera. Borrowing Pete's Canon G9 for this trip - one of the cams I'm actually considering. I am so biased to Canon really.
I've realised i need a trip every year because i tend to slide into this general phase of underperformance from May to August. It's inevitable really and I've noticed it for the past 2 years at least. Hope this recharges the system a bit. Then again last year after I came back from Cambodia and Vietnam I slipped into a general mood of sian from Feb to May haha. Damn I confuse myself. But ok, there were other factors involved with all my good friends leaving the department I guess. That really sucked and probably hit me more than I realise.
Whatever.
Can't wait to check Bali out and then come back and catch up with all my mates. Take care peeps.
Woot!! The official video for 'Pork and Beans' is out and it's hilarious!! So many familiar YouTube faces.
I really can't wait for the album and I know it's easy to get too hyped up but based on what I've heard so far, I think the majority of the Red Album is gonna be kickass.
=w=

(Seriously, don't.)
And I've decided to adopt the Chinese name of Tan Hong Ming for now cos of the cute little kid in the vid in my last post. haha. Call me Hongster for short.
